Steps To Completing an Employment Verification Letter for PERA

1: Send or fax the letter to the old employer.
2: Call to verify that they have received the letter and that they are working on it.
3: Schedule a follow up to make sure they get it done.
4: Don't allow more than 1 week to go by between follow ups until the letter is released.
5: Encourage the old employer to fax the letter to you or to IIG as well as mail it.
6: Once you receive the letter you should immediately fax it and/or send it to PERA with a Purchase Agreement Request Form to PERA's fax and address:
Fax #: 303-863-3727
Address: P.O. Box 5800
Denver, CO 80217-5800
7: Call PERA in 1-2 days to confirm receipt and that it meets their requirements.
8: You can relax and let them complete their research. Call in 1 week to see if they are done and when the PA will go out.

The old adage, "The squeaky wheel gets the grease," certainly applies in this setting. Remind yourself that if anyone sits on your paperwork, you may find yourself paying the November 2005 rates. Be pleasantly persistent and the old employer should be successful in meeting PERA's requirements. Remember that as purchase prices continue to increase, PERA has become less and less flexible with the PERA Purchase Rules. Do not expect them to make any concessions for you. They have really stepped up their commitment to enforcing their rules and procedures.

Disclosure: IIG makes no warrantee that these procedures will guarantee creation of a Purchase Agreement with PERA nor whether the current or increased rates will be used. Employment Verification procedures may change at any time. IIG has no control over PERA or their rules and regulations. We have had success using these procedures over the last 5 years and expect that you will have similar results.
